Horai Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-09-18.

Horai is a planetary clock for Android. I'm Cadi Gwiddon, and I make it under Gwiddon Atelier.

Horai reads your location to work out when the sun rises and sets where you are. That is the only thing it uses location for. The arithmetic happens on your phone, and the app holds no internet permission, so it cannot send your location, or anything else, anywhere.

Permissions

The permissions, and what each one is for

There are four.

Approximate location. The planetary day starts at local sunrise and runs to the next one, so the hours depend on where you are standing. Horai takes a latitude and longitude and calculates the sun crossing the horizon. It asks for approximate location and never for precise, because the arithmetic only needs to know roughly which patch of the world you are in: a few miles makes a difference of seconds.

Before Android asks you for that permission, Horai shows you a page saying what it is for. Nothing is read until you have answered.

Refuse location and the wheel still opens, on Greenwich, so the hours you see are Greenwich's rather than your own. The hour notification stays off until you allow location.

Notifications. The current hour sits in your notification shade so you do not have to open the app to see it. Android 13 and later ask permission before any app may post a notification.

Foreground service and foreground service, location type. That ongoing notification is carried by a foreground service, which is Android's mechanism for a piece of an app that keeps running with a visible notification attached. Android makes an app declare what kind of work such a service does. Horai declares the location type, because the hours in that notification come from your coordinates.

Horai does not ask for background location. It follows your position only while the hour notification is running, and that notification is always visible while it does.

Location

Where your location goes

While the hour notification runs, Horai keeps a rough idea of where you are, so the hours stay true if you travel. It asks Android for position at the lowest priority available, no more than once every fifteen minutes, and only once you have moved at least five kilometres. That priority never wakes the GPS radio. Move less than five kilometres and nothing is recalculated, because sunrise has not moved enough to matter: roughly one minute per twenty kilometres at temperate latitudes.

Your coordinates go into memory, through the sunrise calculation, and nowhere else. Horai writes no location to a file, a database, or app settings, and keeps no history of where you have been. Stop the notification and the coordinates go with it. Nothing is retained, so there is nothing to hand over, and nothing for me to delete on request. Uninstalling removes the app and everything in it.

Inside your phone, Horai broadcasts the current hour and day ruler so that its own parts stay in step. That broadcast is restricted to Horai itself, deliberately: the planetary hour is derived from your location, and an open broadcast would hand a rough location signal to every other app on the device.

What Leaves Your Phone

What leaves your phone

Nothing Horai sends. The app does not hold the Android internet permission, and an app without it cannot open a network connection. You can check this yourself. Open Horai's page on Google Play and look at the permission list. Internet access is not on it.

Horai asks Google Play services, the location component already built into most Android phones, for position. Google Play services is Google's, running under Google's own terms and privacy policy, and how Google determines device location is Google's to describe. Horai receives two numbers and does arithmetic with them.

Accounts & Ads

Accounts, ads, analytics

None of the three. No login, no account, no profile. No advertising, and no advertising software. No analytics, and no crash reports reaching me. Nothing is sold inside the app. If you bought Horai on Google Play, that purchase is between you and Google, and I never see your payment details.

Android may include Horai in a device backup, since the app leaves that setting at the platform default. Nothing is stored to put in one.

Children

Children

Horai is not made for children and is not aimed at them. It collects nothing from anyone.

Changes

If this changes

If Horai ever does something different with your information, this page changes first, and the date at the top changes with it. Anything that widens what the app collects or where it sends things gets described here before the version that does it reaches the Play Store, and the Data safety section on Google Play gets updated to match. Ask me for an older version of this page and I will send it.
